ORISA Software GmbH has fundamentally redesigned the existing online configurator for Porsche Design timepieces, both technically and visually, combining technological precision with a luxurious brand experience. The relaunch, which was implemented in close collaboration with the agency muse case and MHP, not only features a new, accessible user interface, but also integrates in-depth CPQ functionalities. These enable customers to enjoy a tailor-made, digital product experience in a quality that lives up to the Porsche Design brand.

The aim was to create a consistent and brand-compliant user experience that is based on the design and functionality of Porsche’s vehicle configurator, which was also co-designed by ORISA, while at the same time meeting digital accessibility requirements. The result is a configurator that not only looks good, but is also fully ADA and WCAG compliant for the first time.

Technologically, the configurator is based on ORISA’s powerful CPQ software, which enables both complex product logic and the integration of visual real-time renderings in this application. A particular focus is on performance and stability – with success: despite the ambitious schedule, the CPQ reflects the high system quality and reliability that meets the premium standards of the product.

An integral part of the redesign is the connection to the CREALIS® Web PDM system. ORISA is responsible for technical integration and ensures that the configured variants can be seamlessly transferred to the manufacturing process. The system is complemented by dynamic image generation. For certain models, 3D models from ORISA’s own portfolio continue to be used. A solution that offers maximum flexibility while maintaining consistent visualisation quality.

With its revamped configurator, ORISA once again demonstrates how intelligent CPQ technology can be combined with emotional brand management and visual excellence in highly individualised luxury segments. The solution not only makes buying a watch a digital and intuitive experience, but also meets the highest technical, design and regulatory standards.

In the complex and dynamic world of product configurations, stability and quality are critical success factors for companies. Quality and Stability for Your Product Configurations

Traditional unit tests check in isolation and clearly defined areas whether individual software components are functioning correctly, to detect and prevent unintended changes or side effects caused by new features at an early stage. In contrast, the CREALIS® Test Tool allows for in-depth testing at the product-specific level. This means that complex rule sets and specific customer models remain not only technically correct but also contentedly stable. Customers can be sure that the tested configurations will deliver the same results even after a new release – a critical aspect for companies that rely on the stability of their product configurations. With this extended functionality, the automated test tool offers customers a significant added value over standard tests.

Updatable Tests for Complex and Evolving Rule Sets

For companies with large, complex models and a high level of product variety, manually testing these variants is almost impossible and extremely time-consuming. This is where the automated test tool comes in: It automates click paths and tests the combinations of configurations. For example, special requirements and technical specifications can be entered, and the test tool will automatically check whether the configuration remains correct and compatible. This ensures that prices, bills of materials, and other important product parameters are still correct.

Another advantage is that the test tool responds flexibly to product changes. When a product is technically updated, the tests can be resumed or automatically updated with minimal effort. The initial effort to record the tests is required only once. If changes are made to the product, the existing test case can be enriched with new data, resulting in a new, adaptable test case. These updates create new comparison values, which can then be integrated into the ongoing test cycle. This ensures that the testing process stays up-to-date and can be easily adapted throughout the product’s lifecycle with minimal effort.

Early Detection of Errors and Increased Efficiency through Automated Tests

With the automated test tool, potential product malfunctions in the configuration process can be detected early – long before the customer has to intervene. This additional testing phase, which occurs before the customer’s final approval, provides developers with faster feedback and allows them to fix any irregularities detected by the automatic test. This saves both time and costs, as errors that would otherwise only appear in a late and expensive stage of development are avoided. Instead, a new level of quality assurance is introduced, which works without customer involvement and allows for timely corrections.

Many software solutions today offer online configuration as soon as a product becomes customizable. CREALIS® CPQ takes this a step further by enabling the easy creation of comprehensive dependencies, helping guide customers to the right product based on their diverse requirements. Whether in classic mechanical engineering, the medical sector or even complex plant engineering scenarios, CREALIS® CPQ simplifies the sale of products with numerous variants.

However, finding the right product is just only one step in digitalizing sales processes. Beyond matching customer data, it’s essential to provide tools to compile complete shopping carts and generate relevant quotation and order documents. This is where a central tool comes into play: The CREALIS® Dashboard, serving as a control center: .

For users, this control center is a powerful tool that provides them with an overview of the sales and administration processes. A significant advantage in the daily work with the CREALIS® Dashboard is the ability to save personal configurations as favorites and assign them to a defined user group.

The processing of new requests and offers typically starts in the product catalog, which provides the user with detailed listing of all products and their related information serving as the starting point for the configuration. Using the dashboard’s search functions, users can quickly and easily access details about their customers’ shopping cart items, offer statuses and configurations. A special component of the CREALIS® dashboard is the inclusion of workflows. These workflows make special requests, such as Engineer-to-Order (ETO), accessible in our control center. In the subsequent approval process, users can control all content and actions via designated authorized personnel.

The administrative process includes the user and customer management components as well as the workflow design. In the user and customer administration, the user can organize all users into groups and retrieve customer data (such as contacts, company affiliations) via the search function. Extending the dashboard with our CREALIS® CRM unlocks further functionalities, such as appointment scheduling, documentation of the complete customer contact history, and statistical evaluations.

CPQ systems provide various options for conveying additional information such as sustainability data. The advantage is clear: during configuration, product variants are created with different values, such as energy efficiency. These values can be easily determined directly by the CPQ system if they represent, for instance, the sum of the energy efficiencies of individual parts or assemblies used. However, a more complex calculation is often required, which can typically only be effectively implemented using a CPQ system. This information must then be attached to a quotation as documents or displayed directly during the configuration process, as legally required. A typical example of this is displaying total fuel consumption and CO2 emissions when configuring vehicles.

But do the legally mandated labels do justice to environmental protection and sustainability? Certainly, much more information on resource requirements, durability and material origin can be meaningfully incorporated into product data. In a product configuration, this data can also be used to steer the sales process towards environmentally related information. A CPQ system can be designed in such a way that users clearly understand from the outset what impact or ecological footprint the desired product variant will have. Moreover, during configuration, it can show ways to improve the ecological footprint by adjusting the desired parameters.

There are many additional ways to enhance sustainability and environmental protection through product configuration. Examples include integrating product simulations in additive manufacturing to avoid printing test pieces. Digital twins that individually replicate the configured variant can also be integrated. These digital twins can simulate service life and durability.
