CREALIS® 3D configures CUSTOM-BUILT TIMEPIECES from Porsche Design

Porsche Design watches have been available worldwide for more than 40 years. In July 2014, the Porsche Design Group established a subsidiary in Switzerland to continue its high-end watch business. Since then, Porsche Design Timepieces AG has been responsible for the development and production of exclusive Porsche Design watches. The unique selling point of the Timepieces collection is the symbiosis of design and function. Here, as with Porsche Cars, movement and kinematics lead to a unique sensory experience. In addition to design expertise and engineering excellence, the intelligent transfer of technology from motorsport is a defining feature of the watch collections. In this way, Porsche Design continues to redefine industry standards.
THE TASK
As a leading global supplier of high-quality technical design watches, Porsche Design continuously strives to maintain and improve its position in the global market. With the introduction of CUSTOM-BUILT TIMEPIECES and the implementation of a modern 3D product configurator for these configurable designer watches, Porsche Design has taken the next step towards even greater visibility for its watch collection with the slogan ‘Your sports car on your wrist’.
THE PROCESS
The product configurator used is based on the CREALIS® CPQ cloud solution and combines a modern user experience with the technical requirements of a state-of-the-art web application.
When selecting a provider for CPQ solutions, it was important to the Porsche Design project team to favour standardised software. CREALIS® CPQ in the form of CREALIS® 3D quickly became the focus of attention. This cloud solution provides the necessary technologies for 3D visualisation, which are based on common WebGL standards. This means that no additional plug-in is required for the detailed display of the watches, and the application also runs smoothly on modern mobile devices. Another key factor in the decision to choose CREALIS® was the CREALIS® PDM maintenance environment. This system enables Porsche Design to intuitively and user-friendly store all data, dependencies and visualisations for the configurator itself, without having to use ORISA’s services.
A particular challenge for the watch configurator was the direct connection to the Porsche Car Configurator. This allows prospective customers who are configuring a customised Porsche to complement their individuality with the matching Porsche Design watch. The selection of rims, interior and car colour for the Porsche 911 flows directly from the Car Configurator into the individual watch configuration.
THE OUTCOME
During implementation, particular emphasis was placed on the central presentation of the individual watches. Prospective buyers can choose between different bezels or hand and dial colours. They are offered a wide variety of winding rotors in the rim design of the Porsche 911 and individual leather straps in Porsche interior design with stitching matching that of the car seats. All details are visualised realistically in the 3D representation of the watch and can be viewed from different angles.

THE OUTLOOK
The watch configurator is currently available for Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Poland, Japan and Switzerland in the respective national languages and with country-specific prices. Further markets such as France and Austria are to be added in the near future.
